Wow I enjoyed this poem by Kate Camp, published in The Spinoff today. Her writing makes my mind's eye spin around and look inside myself. I really enjoyed being lead by the words to see myself in a different way - standing on top of my shoes, inside my coat. It's quirky and accurate and playful. But the animals at the end are scary and that's truthful for me too that they lurk and pace and observe, living off rotten and destructive thoughts. I like that her poem captures some of the aspects of the isolation imposed by the lockdown. Being cut off makes you introspective and can intensify thoughts because they stay trapped inside you.
Today the weather has turned cold and wet. The soggy grey outlook has quickly replaced the sunshiney holiday mood of the first few days of lockdown. I'm going to bake some bread to lift the mood and keep the bears at bay.
